چکیده

A bo aged twelve years fell in 1949 and sustained a supracondvlar fracture of the right elbow with backward displacement of the lower fragment. On tile same day the fracture reduced. The hospital notes are scant ’ , but it seems likely that there some vascular damage at that time which escaped notice. Radiographs showed persistence of the backward displacement of the lower fragment, and ten days later an open reduction was carried out. This was followed by Volkmann’s (1881) ischaemic contracture. Flexor digitorum profundus entrapment in paediatric forearm fractures

Entrapment of the flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) is a recognized complication of paediatric both-bone forearm fractures. Although a rare complication, it is usually missed at the time of initial fracture management resulting in the need for corrective surgery. Localized type Volkmann's contracture treated with tendon transfer and tension-reduced early mobilization

RATIONALE For localized type Volkmann's contracture, in which degeneration of the flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) muscle to one or two fingers and restriction of finger extension occur, dissection or excision of the affected muscle is usually recommended. However, these surgical procedures need relatively wide exposure of the muscle, because the FDP muscle is in the deep portion of the forearm...

The relief of traumatic arterial spasm in threatened Volkmann's ischaemic contracture.

The etiology of Volkmann’s contracture has been much debated. Incorrect bandaging (Volkmann 1881), venous occlusion (Murphy 1914, Brooks 1922, Jepson 1926), subfascial haematoma (Moulonguet and Sen#{232}que 1928, Jos#{233} Jorge 1925), arterial spasm (Griffiths 1940) are some of the causes that have been suggested. Leriche (1928) likened the changes in the muscles to those seen in cardiac and p...
